Petrovac

For a long time, Petrovac was a small town located amid dense vegetation

between Kastio and Malo brdo, with the islets of Katic and Sveta Nedjelja, and was first discovered by tourists 90 years ago. Year after year, the number of tourists

has grown, and Petrovac has been constantly increasing the number of beds available both in private houses and in hotels. There are increasingly fewer olive trees and less vegetation, while the beach with its small pier, pedestrian walkway along the beach, new and old hotels and houses along the shore, restaurants and cafes all continue to write new pages in the tourism history of this place, one of the main tourist centres in the Budva Riviera. The new tourism image of Petrovac is enriched by the monuments of the past. The oldest traces of material culture are the remains of the Roman villa “Rustika” from the 3rd – 4th century AD, with its beautiful floor mosaics, discovered in Miriste. In the written records, Petrovac is mentioned in the 12th century as Lastva, while it was referred to as Kastel Lastva after the 16th century, when the Venetians were built the fortress Kastio here.

The Monastery of Rezevici is located alongside the road, between Sveti Stefan

and Petrovac. According to oral tradition, it was built on the location of a pagan temple from ancient times. The Monastery has three churches. The Church of Assumption of the Holy Mother of God was erected in 1226 by the Serbian king, Stefan the First-Crowned. The Church of the Archdeacon Stefan was erected in 1351 by Tsar Dusan, when he recognized the noble status of the rulers of Pastrovici and gave them a Code according to which their tribal court of Bankada ruled over the Drobni pijesak. The Monastery features preserved fresco paintings from the 16th century, with layers dating back to the 13th century, valuable icons and church relics, which remain from its seven centuries long history, during which the monastery was plundered on several occasions by different conquerors, who destroyed a number of old books and documents. As it is today, the Monastery of Rezevici has always been located alongside the major roads, and a written record testifies that a pillar complete with a special niche for a jug of wine was placed here, as a sign of hospitality for the travellers passing by.
