The Redzepagic Tower Plav
Stone houses and towers are unique to this area around Plav-Gusinje. The unique stone houses were built from 16th to the beginning of the 20th Century and differ in structure and form from the wooden houses of the area. They were constructed with hardly any openings and purpose built as defense. The majority of the the towers were built by masters from Debar, a town in Macedonia of today, who were famous for as specialists in wood - and stone construction.
The Redzepagic Tower is the oldest and most interesting housing-defence facility in the city of Plav. It was built in 1671 by Hasan-beg Redzepagic. The tower has three floors connected by wooden indoor stairs. Two floors are made of stone and the third one of wood. On each side of the building, on the second floor, there are covered wooden balconies. Ground floor was used for horses and as a warehouse, and on the first floor there were rooms intended for sitting, sleeping and eating. Loopholes are made in the walls over one metre thick. The tower is now hosting the local ethnographic collection.
